Michael Allemeier

After running the kitchens at acclaimed restaurants, including Calgary’s Teatro, the famed Bishop’s in Vancouver and Mission Hill Winery in Kelowna, Michael Allemeier shares his love for cooking and artful plating with students in SAIT’s culinary programs.

Along with mentoring and guiding chefs through his years in restaurants, Allemeier had the opportunity to ‘teach’ new recipes through appearances on the Food Network Canada show, Cook Like a Chef.

Ready for a change after more than three decades in restaurants, Allemeier joined SAIT in 2009. He currently teaches students on the main campus.

One of only five chefs in Canada to earn the Certified Master Chef designation from the Canadian Culinary Institute, Allemeier attributes this feat to the support he received from SAIT while earning it.

The designation required four years of intense study, assignments and exams in 11 areas, from baking theory and garde manger to food safety, entrepreneurship, tourism and hospitality marketing.

Awards and achievements:

  • The third chef in Canada — of five total — to earn a Certified Master Chef designation

If I wasn’t doing this: "I’d be running a bed and breakfast with a pottery shed out back."
