Robotics and Automation Lab
Our robotics and automation lab features the latest and greatest in automation and mechanization in the welding engineering and fabrication industry. As a student, you will gain hands-on experience in this 4000 sq. ft. cutting-edge space, which features:
- a Cobot automated welding robot
- a large Panasonics robot
- orbital Mig and TIG welders
- a CNC plasma cutting table
- a variety of cutting-edge mechanized cutting and welding equipment.
Programs
Study how to identify possible mechanical and structural failures for oil and gas, transportation and utility companies through this program that covers the basics of the high-demand inspection industry.

As a pathway to becoming a welder, you will learn how to use welding technology to join, shape and cut metal parts. You will learn the course materials first-year welder apprentices receive with tools and safety training.

Develop a strong understanding and skill in welding processes and fillers, including electrical arc, gas and resistance welding.

Pursue a career in the welding industry and learn to interpret drawings, standards and specifications as well as understand welding codes.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
