Various funding sources are available to help reduce the cost of international learning experiences, including:
- donor-supported funds, such as the Cenovus Energy student experience grants
- SAIT crowdfunding
- other funding partners that will be updated throughout the year.
Below you’ll find current opportunities available to students in specific schools and other potential sources of funding.
Cenovus Student Experience Fund
Available funding
- Up to 66% of study abroad program costs, excluding personal expenses
- Maximum of $5,000 per student for short-term study abroad trips
- Maximum of $3,000 per student for other school-sanctioned travel events (for example, conference attendance)
- Funding is awarded on a first-qualified, first-served basis as funds are limited
Eligibility
- Enrolled in, or recently graduated (within 4 months) from a MacPhail program
- Minimum GPA of 2.8
- Accepted into a SAIT study abroad program
- First-time recipient of this funding
- Agree to complete a post-trip reflection (essay or video) and participate in a debrief meeting(s)

Cenovus Student Experience Fund

- Up to $5,000 per student for semester exchange (10 students supported annually)
- Up to $2,500 per student for short-term study abroad trips (30 students supported annually)
- Annual total of $125,000 in funding available
- Funding is awarded on a first-qualified, first-served basis as funds are limited
Eligibility
- Enrolled in, or recently graduated (within 4 months) from a School of Business program
- Minimum GPA of 2.8
- Approved for a SAIT study abroad program
- First-time recipient of this funding
- Willing to complete a post-trip reflection (essay or video) and participate in a debrief

What the funds cover
Funding may be applied to SAIT-coordinated program costs such as:
- airfare
- accommodations
- in-country support and cultural excursions
- health insurance
- some in-country transportation
- for semester exchanges, tuition fees are paid to SAIT
Not covered: Passport/visa fees, food, personal expenses, checked luggage, or costs beyond the maximum funding amount.

Crowdfunding helps you raise money for your study abroad trip by sharing your story and collecting small donations from friends, family, and supporters through SAIT’s secure, online platform.
Crowdfunding campaigns can raise CAD $500–$15,000, depending on network size and promotion.
How it works
- Create your campaign page on SAIT’s crowdfunding platform
- Share it through social media and your networks
- Keep supporters updated and make sure to thank them after your trip
Before you start
- Set a realistic goal and explain how funds will be used

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
