Before you start

There will be three components to your application:

  • the application form
  • a copy of your academic transcript and your current resume
  • selection interview

Ensure you set aside enough time to complete these documents before the application deadline.

Application and selection process

Before starting your application, you should confirm you meet the following eligibility criteria. At the time of your application, you must be:

  • a full-time SAIT student
  • 18 years of age or older
  • in good academic standing
  • finished at least one semester of your SAIT program
  • eligible to gain entry to the host country*.

*Students who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents can still apply. However, they must ensure they are eligible to enter the host country before applying.

Each study abroad program may also have specific eligibility/application requirements. To find program-specific requirements, see available study-abroad programs.

How to apply

Applying for a study abroad program at SAIT is a simple three-step process:

Browse upcoming programs, eligibility, and academic requirements. You'll need to be in good academic standing and meet GPA and program prerequisites.

To apply, you must be:

  • A full-time SAIT student

  • At least 18 years old

  • In good academic standing

  • Finished at least one semester at SAIT by the time of travel

  • Eligible to enter the host country with a passport valid for at least six months after the end date of the study abroad program*

*International students are welcome to apply but must confirm visa eligibility before applying.

Some programs may have additional requirements — check the available programs for details.

You'll also need to upload:

  • A current resume
  • Your unofficial SAIT transcript (a screenshot or download from mySAIT is acceptable)

  • A short written statement (500 words or less) that includes:
    • About You: Share your background, career goals, interests, hobbies, extracurriculars, and any previous travel experience.

    • Why This Program: Explain your motivation for applying and what you hope to gain from the study abroad experience.

Some programs may include an interview as part of the selection process — this is decided by the program coordinator or trip leader. If an interview is required, shortlisted applicants will be contacted to schedule one.

All successful applicants will be notified by email and will receive an official offer through the Study Abroad portal.

For semester exchange students, additional academic advising and course planning will follow.

Selection interview

Those considered to have most closely met the selection criteria will be contacted for a panel interview.

At this interview, you'll be asked to make a short elevator pitch (one to two minutes) to persuade the panel of your suitability to participate in the program. You'll also be asked a series of interview questions.

During the interview, we'll be looking for students who have the following skills and abilities:

Academic and professional leadership

  • Able to explain the advantages of participating in a program from their perspective
  • Have achieved an acceptable level of academic performance
  • Demonstrate competent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate a professional work ethic in industry and the classroom

Personal skills

  • Present themselves as credible professionals and SAIT ambassadors
  • Show respect for others and cultural differences
  • Are proven team players in the classroom and workplace
  • Demonstrate leadership ability
  • Display awareness and understanding of current social, economic and political issues in Canada
  • Demonstrate achievement in areas other than career and academics (for example, volunteer work or team sports.)

We aim to inform all applicants, in writing, of the selection decision within a week of the interview. However, this isn't always possible, depending on the number of applicants.

If you are selected to participate in a study abroad program, you'll be asked to confirm your participation in writing and by providing an electronic copy of your passport picture page.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
