SAIT Annual Report 2023/24

SAIT has always prided itself on connections.

This past year, we’ve focused heavily on establishing, reinforcing and strengthening connections with our growing community. These activities and relationships are key to addressing local challenges and to our continued contribution to the education landscape and economic growth of our province, and they’re key to supporting our students as we prepare them for successful careers and lives.

About SAIT

Established in 1916, SAIT was the first of its kind, publicly funded technical school in North America. As a global leader in applied education, SAIT serves 40,000 students annually. SAIT offers baccalaureate and applied degree programs, diplomas, certificates, apprenticeship programs and more than 550 continuing education and corporate training courses, and specializes in four award-winning areas of applied research. Curriculum and research priorities are developed through industry partnerships to meet workforce needs and build capacity for innovation province-wide. SAIT is recognized by Mediacorp Canada Inc. as one of Alberta’s Top Employers (2024) and by Research Infosource Inc. as fourth among the Top 50 Research Colleges in Canada (2025). SAIT is ranked #53 on CEOWORLD Magazine’s list of Best Business Schools and #13 on the list of Best Hospitality and Hotel Management Schools in the World for 2025.

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology’s (SAIT) main campus is located at 1301 16 Ave NW, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and sits on 96 acres of land overlooking the city.

In 1916, SAIT’s doors opened in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with 11 students and a mandate to train veterans returning from the First World War. Over the years, SAIT has matched community needs — as a hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic and as a Royal Canadian Air Force Wireless Training School during the Second World War.

SAIT launched its new three-year strategic plan Bold Futures in 2025. This plan, energized by a renewed focus on learner and graduate success, strengthens our academic quality and operating systems and builds innovative connections and economic impact. It leverages the transformative power of applied education in preparation for an unknowable future — a bold future, intrinsically full of possibilities.

SAIT’s alumni family is more than 289,000 strong in more than 110 countries.

89% of SAIT grads get hired and 92% recommend a SAIT education.

SAIT is home to eight academic schools:

Our School for Advanced Digital Technology is SAIT’s boldest transformation to date. It’s focus on digital skills will be a catalyst for Calgary’s talent ecosystem and our city’s ability to attract investment and diversify for the future.

SAIT is connected. We're proud to partner with 250+ industry leaders and companies to support student success through capstone projects and cooperative learning to practicum placements and career fairs.

SAIT offers more than 100 degree, applied degree, diploma and certificate programs, 27 apprenticeship trades and 500+ continuing education, corporate training, camps and other open registration courses.

SAIT’s Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Studies demonstrates both the passion and commitment we have for being a global leader in applied education. Maintaining relevance is critical for success. SAIT is aware of the ongoing demand for lifelong action-based learning, especially in today's rapidly evolving digital economy.

Through SAIT Corporate Training, the institution helps design, deliver, manage and sustain talent development solutions — for today and the future. Areas of training include Digital transformation, Change management, Business, Leadership, Energy & Environment, Occupational health & safety, Trades, Indigenous training, Work transition, Individual learners and Training for organizations outside Canada.

SAIT is the second largest provider of technical training in Alberta.

Through the generous support of its donors, SAIT is proud to offer $10 million in awards to students in almost every program.

The SAIT logo is known as the “Catalyst.” It’s forged by five s-shaped connectors representing the people and relationships that define us:

  • students
  • faculty and staff
  • alumni
  • employers and partners
  • the diverse communities we serve.

SAIT is one of Canada’s top allied research colleges, with 121,000 sq. ft. of specialized research labs and facilities, and a dynamic team of more than 80 research experts. At ARIS (Applied Research and Innovation Services), SAIT brings industry partners together with researchers, faculty and students to develop novel technologies for commercialization in four applied research areas:

  • Green Building Technologies
  • Innovation and Research in Advanced Manufacturing and Materials
  • Innovation and Research in Unmanned Systems
  • Energy Research and Clean Unconventional Technology Solutions

SAIT partners with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) to deliver the Alberta Corridor Technical Symposium, bringing together polytechnic institutions to showcase the excellent work conducted by applied research scientists in Alberta.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
