As Associate Vice President, Academic, Janet Segato provides strategic leadership and operational oversight across all SAIT schools. Janet is responsible for enhancing the collective effectiveness of the academic schools, fostering synergy, collaboration and innovation to deliver SAIT's vision for the future.

In her previous position as Dean with the School of Business, Janet played a pivotal role in the school’s growth and was instrumental in the school being ranked as one of the top business schools in Canada and around the globe, according to CEOWORLD.

Janet has also served as Associate Dean and Academic Chair for multiple programs and a faculty member within the School of Business. She spent 10 years in the controller’s department of a multinational petrochemical firm, and as a designated accountant (FCPA, FCMA), she was awarded a fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants.

Janet attended Wilfrid Laurier University where she earned her bachelor’s degree with honours in Business Administration. She later earned a Master of Education from the University of Alberta.

She spent six years as a board member with Distress Centre Calgary and served as Board Chair from 2018 to 2021. Janet is passionate about innovative applied education and the role it plays in preparing graduates to excel in the business world.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
