Your Rights at Work: Alberta Employment Standards & Free Support

The session is designed to support students who are working or planning to work in Alberta and want to feel confident navigating the workplace, asking informed questions, and protecting themselves from common misunderstandings or unfair practices.

The session provides a practical overview of Alberta’s employment standards to help students understand their rights and responsibilities at work. Topics include minimum wage, hours of work, overtime, breaks, holidays, and what to do if workplace issues arise.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
