Allyship to Advocacy: Practical Approaches in the Skilled Trades

Join us for an interactive session focused on understanding the difference between allyship and advocacy, and when each is most effective in the skilled trades. Together, we’ll explore pragmatic, real-world approaches to supporting equity and inclusion, moving beyond intention to meaningful action in classrooms, shops, and workplaces.

This session encourages reflection, discussion, and practical takeaways that participants can apply immediately, whether they are just beginning their allyship journey or looking to strengthen their role as an advocate.

  • 📅 Date: April 8, 2026
  • ⏰ Time: Two sessions available, 11 am – noon or noon – 1 pm
  • 📍 Venue: CB 307, Aldred Centre
  • 👥 Audience: Apprentices, faculty, and all supporters in the skilled trades
  • 🎤 Facilitator: Ben Hart, Instructor, School of Transportation

Join us in building a culture where everyone in the trades can thrive. All are welcome—come ready to learn, reflect, and explore practical ways to show up as an ally and an advocate. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Women in Skilled Trades Retention Program is partially funded by the Government of Canada’s Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
