Life at SAIT
Loanne is the Academic Chair for the Journalism and Library Information Technology programs in the School of Business. As a seasoned leader, Loanne has availed her industry knowledge and relationship building and transformational coaching abilities to support School students, faculty, and staff. Loanne’s most prized ability is to positively impact people’s lives and leave them feeling better and more hopeful about the future. She has done so by introducing quality 21st century revisions to the Journalism and LIT programs.
Loanne encourages students to enjoy their learning journeys and get involved with clubs to grow their skills and network. She says education is a gift that allows you to see the world in newer, wholesome, and creative ways.
In addition to her current role, Loanne serves as a creative and dedicated member of the Truth and Reconciliation Stategic Working Group and the Faculty Workload Guidelines Committee.
When not at work, Loanne takes great interest in bike rides, camping, traveling, solving puzzles and participating in escape rooms.
Education
Loanne holds a master's in management from the University of British Columbia and a bachelor's in psychology from the University of Calgary. During her undergraduate studies, she was the recipient of the prestigious Jason Lang Scholarship. Loanne’s life longing learning philosophy has led her to pursue certificates in management studies, HR Management, and most recently another master’s in higher education administration and leadership from Royal Roads University (expected completion 2025). Here on campus, Loanne has completed the Leading at SAIT and the Chair Academy Programs.
Professional accomplishments
Loanne has worked at SAIT since 2008. She joined the Employee Services department as a Pensions and Benefits Specialist and then in Recruitment before contributing to SAIT’s growth through multiple leadership roles, including Manager of Support Services with the School of Manufacturing, Automation, and Transportation and as an Academic Chair in the School of Construction. Prior to joining SAIT, Loanne worked for the Government of Alberta, managing personnel administration, budgeting, forecasting, and acquisitions for several offices, including the Children's Advocate, the Canada/Alberta Service Centre, and the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH).

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
