Life at SAIT

Jay joined the School of Business in 2024 as an Instructor, teaching primarily in the Diploma program across courses including Introduction to Business, Organizational Behavior, and Capstone. He is deeply committed to student success and believes that each of us brings a unique set of skills and perspectives to the business world.

Outside of the classroom, Jay enjoys spending time with his family, biking, early morning hockey, and everything music-related. A firm believer in Servant Leadership, he puts this philosophy into practice by volunteering with various organizations throughout Calgary.

Education

A proud native Calgarian, Jay holds a Master’s Degree in International Business from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, France, and completed post-graduate studies at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, where he remains an active and engaged alumnus. Jay likes to say that his Chemistry degree taught him that business, like science, is really just a series of experiments — some of which blow up in your face.

Professional Accomplishments

Jay brings an extensive and varied career to the classroom, with deep roots in Information Technology and Deregulated Energy. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Customer Support and Services at Cognera, a division of Harris Computer. His career has spanned Management, Technology, Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship, and Mergers & Acquisitions — all of which enrich his teaching approach.

Earlier in his career, Jay travelled the world as a Corporate Trainer for Brinker International, an experience that reinforced his belief that some of the most valuable lessons in business are learned on the front line of customer service.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
