From radio DJ to market researcher, business consultant, podcaster and best-selling textbook author — as well as the author of a new competency-based learning workbook, just released in 2021 — David Gaudet brings his skills and multitude of experience to SAIT’s School of Business as an instructor.
After earning a diploma from SAIT in cinema, television, stage and radio arts in the 1980s, Gaudet launched a 15-year career in radio that had him selling ad time for his own shows, while spinning tunes over the airwaves, for stations in Cranbrook and Fernie, B.C. and Fort McMurray, AB. He would eventually also work in Victoria, Calgary (CJAY92) before winding up in Vancouver, where he was the program director for CFOX, the most prominent rock station in Canada at the time.
After moving back to Calgary, he unplugged from radio and switched to a career as an entrepreneur, providing market research, then working as a business analyst and communications expert.
He was consulting for SAIT as it was undergoing a rebrand in the ‘90s when an employee came in and asked if he happened to know anything about business communications — a sessional instructor who had been set to teach class that night had fallen through. Gaudet stepped up, launching what would become a long career of instructing at the post-secondary. Today, as faculty for the School of Business, he teaches students all things marketing, as well as innovation and design.
Gaudet earned a Master of Business Administration from Australia’s University of Southern Queensland in 2003.
Along with teaching, he continues to work in the private sector, keeping his skills — and real-world stories for students — fresh.
