Richard Stroobant is a faculty member at SAIT, where he teaches a variety of courses with a primary focus on audio production in the Radio, Television, and Broadcast News program.
He has been nominated by students for the Instructor Excellence Award 11 times, most recently in May 2025. Stroobant received the award for the School of Information and Communications Technology in both 2016 and 2017. In 2013, he was recognized with the Teaching Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) at the University of Texas. In 2019, he became the inaugural recipient of the Clarence Hollingworth SAIT Alumni Employee Award of Excellence, an honour given to a graduate who demonstrates exceptional professionalism, commitment to SAIT’s mission, and pride in being part of the SAIT community.
He served as Interim Academic Chair for two media programs at SAIT from August 2022 to May 2023, and was the faculty representative on SAIT’s Board of Governors from 2014 to 2018. Stroobant also sat on the Board of Directors for the Broadcast Educators Association of Canada from 2012 to 2018 and is a member of the SAIT Distinguished Alumni Circle.
Before joining SAIT’s faculty, Stroobant worked extensively in the broadcast industry, spending most of his career in the Calgary area. He is a multi-award-winning producer, best known for his work at CJAY 92.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
