Ready for an extraordinary, all-expenses paid, 8-week internship in India? The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) invites applications from Alberta post-secondary students to join in this enriching experience. Under the guidance of esteemed Indian faculty and researchers, you'll delve into diverse projects across industries while immersing yourself in India's vibrant culture.

The SASI Project redefines internships, offering a comprehensive experience that will fuel your personal, academic, and professional growth. During your internship you will:

  • Work on real projects with prestigious Indian institutions spanning various industries. With hands-on training and exposure, you'll sharpen your practical skills and acquire industry-specific knowledge that's in high demand worldwide.
  • Work side-by-side with other students in environments filled with diverse, multicultural teams. Together, you'll enhance your intercultural, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills.

Destination: India (exact location dependent on SAIT program of study and host institution city)

Program Dates: July 1 - August 23, 2024 (includes travel)

Cost: CAD $8,500/grant funded - no cost to students

The grant for selected students covers international round trip air tickets, domestic travel, accommodation, meals, visa, health insurance, stipend, and an honorarium to host faculty. 

Application process, eligibility and deadline:

Applicants must:

  1. Review the list of available projects and host institutions.
  2. Meet with their Academic Chair to ensure internship and SAIT program fit, to determine eligibility for course credit, and to select their top three internship choices.
  3. Complete the application form and letter of reference form.
  4. Email the completed application and supporting documents to siciapp@ucalgary.ca and study.abroad@sait.ca with the subject line "SASI Project 2024-25" on or before March 15, 2024, by 11:00 pm MST.
  5. SICI will announce the names of selected interns by March 25, 2024.

Eligibility:

  • Current SAIT students in relevant 2-year diploma or 4-year degree programs, with at least one semester remaining upon completion of the internship. 
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents with demonstrated English proficiency.
  • Students must not have any prior academic credentials earned from an Indian institution.
  • Financially challenged and Indigenous students are highly encouraged to apply.

Additional Information: Funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Government of Alberta, SASI aims to enhance global competencies and adaptability among Alberta students.  Wrap-around support for selected applicants includes SICI arranging/assisting interns in obtaining appropriate Indian visas, securing accommodations, connecting students with host Indian supervisors, providing orientations, mentoring, etc.

Cost: Approximately $3500 - $4000 (includes flights, accommodation and insurance. Does not include meals/personal spending). Price dependent on room type.  Each student selected will receive a GEN bursary of $1200.

Description: Get work-ready while studying at Box Hill Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Description: Join students from Australia, Singapore and the USA in a community service learning project in Bali, Indonesia.  You will develop social responsibility through community services at Bali Life Foundation, Kuta, Bali.  You will also engage in cultural exchange to raise awareness and understanding of sustainability & socio-economic issues through project based work.  Enhance your leadership skills and enjoy volunteering with students from around the globe!

Description: Join students from Australia, Singapore and the USA to learn the fundamentals of Project Management (PM) and devise, develop and deliver an event utilizing PM principles. This program will provide a solid grounding in project management alongside cultural activities, such as field trips to the Calgary Stampede, Banff and Drumheller. Semester exchange study abroad

Want to travel for a while longer? Choose to take pre-determined courses through one of our partner institutions over a full-semester term.

Courses align with your SAIT program and upon successful completion, you’ll gain academic credit towards your program.

Destination: Switzerland

Description: Complete one semester of your program at HSLU in Lucerne, Switzerland. You'll receive credit towards your SAIT degree and pay only SAIT tuition.
