The following awards were presented virtually during the Spring 2020 celebration.
As part of SAIT’s Centennial in 2016, we introduced the President’s Medal to celebrate outstanding student achievement. Now, we acknowledge recipients at our convocation ceremonies each year.
The President’s Medal recognizes individual students for their accomplishments as outstanding leaders and volunteers who have demonstrated academic excellence.
This year, we’re pleased to have two President’s Medal recipients, Ryan Morstad, President of Saitsa, and Yatendra Solanki, Director of Saitsa Board of Directors.
Ryan is graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration, major in Financial Services from the School of Business.
Since 2016, Ryan has made his mark at SAIT, taking on many roles including president and co-founder of the Calgary Surf Club (SAIT), member of Academic Council, Chairman of the Saitsa Board of Directors and most recently, President of Saitsa. Ryan exemplifies what it means to be a stellar student and community leader.
Yatendra is graduating from the Power Engineering Technology program in the MacPhail School of Energy.
He is known for his ability to inspire those around him through his leadership and humble approach. Yatendra brings his passion for creating an inclusive experience for international students to SAIT by spending his time outside the classroom as the President of the South Asian Students Society of SAIT, Director of the Saitsa Board of Directors and a mentor for the SAIT Peer Mentorship Program. Yatendra is the epitome of a truly engaged student — both inside and out of the classroom.

Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal
Kyron Purdy’s highly developed skills and dedication to the academic environment are even more impressive given the context of his past struggles. In his final year of high school, Kyron was diagnosed with ADHD. Like many students, he was prescribed medication for the diagnosis and saw his grades rise. In fact, he was able to make the honour roll that year. Unfortunately, there were also negative side effects to the medication and Kyron developed a dependency on it. In 2014, Kyron dropped out of university.
In 2018, Kyron committed to himself that he would change his life for the better. He overcame his dependence on his ADHD medication and began to rebuild. Kyron’s impact on his fellow students and instructors in his time at SAIT has been incredibly positive and he consistently maintained a fierce commitment to academic success.
The strength and determination Kyron, has shown in his life — from overcoming adversity to working two jobs and graduating from the Business Administration diploma program with a 4.0 GPA — is extraordinary.
"Congratulations Class of 2020! It's a new world out there, but your SAIT education has prepared you for it. Enjoy your new careers!"
