Spring 2021 President’s Medal
Rigel Raju, Bachelor of Business Administration, School of Business
Rigel came to SAIT after completing a degree in Sports Technology from the Loughborough University in England. At SAIT he wanted more — he immersed himself in student life — joining clubs and student government.
Since his first days at SAIT, Rigel has embodied the spirit of this award. His passion to help and inspire others is well known among his peers, instructors and friends.
Rigel has held leadership roles in the SAIT Finance Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honour Society, Enactus SAIT and the Student Investment Management Trust. He also served on the SAIT Board of Governors and Academic Council.
Rigel’s investment in student activities stems from his personal commitment to leave a lasting impact on the community and for future students at SAIT — creating a foundation for others to build on.
Spring 2021 President’s Student Leadership Award
Student Investment Management Trust
The club started as the pipe-dream of a few School of Business students and has grown into a fully functional, and seeded, investment fund managed by students.
By setting up the investment fund, the group wanted to offer a chance for SAIT students to learn how to properly apply their knowledge and the theoretical course concepts beyond the classroom. It is focused on teaching the fundamentals of investing, ethics and professional money management.
The fund, which is set to launch this spring, will give current and future students from a variety of academic disciplines real world money management experience. Founding members hope the experience will support SAIT students in getting internships and jobs.
