Day of Convocation
Upon arrival, guests should proceed directly to the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Give your guests their tickets — children including infants require a ticket — before you proceed to the gowning area in the Symposium room, V202, Campus Centre. You won't be able to leave the processional line to pick up your guest's tickets.
I registered but didn't pick up my tickets
If you registered for convocation but didn't pick up your guests tickets before the ceremony, your guests can pick them up at the information booth, located on the main floor of the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
In order for your guests to pick up their tickets, they must provide your full name and SAIT student ID number for reference.
My guests need special consideration
If your guests require special considerations for seating and you didn't indicate this when you registered, please contact the Office of the Registrar and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Space restrictions mean you're only guaranteed up to two guest tickets each, although you may request up to four tickets each and children, including infants, require their own ticket.
You'll be notified by email about four weeks before the ceremony when guest tickets are ready for pick-up and how many tickets you received.
Extra guest tickets may be available on the day of convocation. Guests can inquire if additional tickets are available at the SAIT information booth one hour before the start of the ceremony on a first-come, first-served basis.
Children, including infants, require a guest ticket to enter the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and must be included in your guest ticket request.
Strollers and infant carriers are not permitted in the auditorium. There's a viewing area outside the auditorium for guests with small children.
Backpacks are not permitted inside the Jubilee Auditorium
Guests may check their backpacks at the coat check.
You can pick up your cap, gown, stole and name pronunciation card in the Symposium Room, Campus Centre. Only graduands are allowed in the gowning and processional area.
The following items are not permitted when you cross the stage:
- large purses
There is a coat check in the Jubilee Auditorium lobby. SAIT is not responsible for the loss or theft of any valuables.
You must return your gown within one hour of the ceremony's conclusion
If your gown is not returned to the Symposium Room, Campus Centre you will be required to pay a $100 late fee.
Once you are gowned, you'll meet your other graduands from your program in the processional area in the ACAD hallway attached to the Jubilee. You'll line up alphabetically, so remember who is on either side of you and remain in alphabetical order for the duration of the ceremony. You'll be directed by ushers when it's time to enter the auditorium.
Guests in the auditorium are asked to stand for the processional. All guests, graduands and the platform party are asked to remain standing until after O Canada. You'll then be asked to be seated for the duration of the ceremony.
If you need assistance during the ceremony, please see an usher.
When it's time for you to enter the stage, an usher will collect you from your seat in the auditorium and lead you backstage. You'll be instructed to walk onstage and pass the announcer your name pronunciation card. Do not start walking to the middle of the stage until your full name has been announced. Your name will be announced, you'll walk to the middle of the stage, pause for a handshake and photo, and then walk to the right side of the stage and descend the stairs. You'll be guided back to your seat by an usher.
Out of respect for your peers, we ask that you remain seated until the ceremony has finished. There will be a recessional of the graduates and the platform party at the end of the ceremony.
SAIT Alumni is pleased to give you a gift, a free photo of you in cap and gown as you cross the stage. You can order your photo online from Mountain West Studios using your email and the order code in the convocation book. The photos will be available for viewing approximately one week after the ceremony.
A photographer will also be available in the Symposium Room, Campus Centre during convocation for individual and family portraits on a first-come, first-served basis.
