This program prepares students to enter the workforce and become a pipetrades apprentice. Recent changes to the pipe trades apprenticeship framework mean that apprentice plumbers, steam/pipefitters, and gasfitters all complete the same first-year technical training. In Dual-Credit Pre-Employment Pipetrades students will receive this same technical training, plus additional hands-on skills and safety training.
Pipetrades apprentices may specialize in residential and commercial plumbing, commercial and industrial gasfitting and steamfitting, building maintenance, oil and gas and/or heating systems.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to receive a SAIT Pre-Employment Pipetrades certificate and may be eligible to challenge the written exam for first-year pipe trades apprenticeship.
In order to be eligible for a SAIT credential, students must successfully pass the following courses or equivalents with an overage average of at least 50%:
- Math 20-1, or Math 20-2, or Math 20-3
- English Language Arts 20-1, or English Language Arts 20-2
- Science 10
There may be other pre-requisite or co-requisites required by the school board for admission into this dual-credit program. Check with your local school board for further information.
