We have the required training materials, tools, equipment and facilities along with the proven experience in delivering training for large employers with multiple training sites.

CPR and First Aid

Our basic life support training is accredited and our instructors are certified ensuring that our training programs are up-to-date as per established provincial and national resuscitation standards.

Basic life support

Our first aid courses — Standard First Aid and Standard First Aid recertification — are approved by Alberta Employment and Immigration. Our CPR courses are made possible through our partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and are taught in accordance with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada guidelines.

SAIT has been delivering this training since 2000 and on average, trains roughly 7,000 individuals per year on and off-campus.

Our basic life support training is focused on:

Summer student field safety

SAIT's popular summer student field safety training program is a great way to not only train your summer hires but to eventually recruit and retain them longer-term.

Delivered on SAIT campus, this comprehensive oilfield safety training program is industry-recognized and provides a quick and convenient, one-stop approach to standardized oilfield safety training and certification for oil and gas companies.

Training and certification

Our oilfield safety training package includes instructor-led and online training, certification/tickets, take-away training materials and daily refreshments. The following courses are included in the training program and are typically delivered over a six-day period.

Confined space entry

This eight-hour course will provide participants with the knowledge and skill of how to work safely in a confined space. In addition to a classroom session which discusses the theory of proper confined space work, participants will also perform a series of practical exercises using our confined space training vessel. 

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certification card.

H²S Alive

This course follows the Alberta Petroleum Industry Training Services (Enform) standards and will be led by a certified H²S Alive instructor. Participants will acquire knowledge through a number of case studies, actively testing H²S and setting up and using emergency breathing apparatuses for rescue.

Participants will be issued a H²S Alive certification card upon successful completion of this eight-hour course.

Safe driving

This 10-hour course — six hours defensive driving in-class instruction and four hours in-vehicle — specially designed to meet the needs of participants who will be working out in the field.

Standard First Aid and CPR

This course is through the Canadian Red Cross. This 16-hour Alberta-based course is spread out over two consecutive days and includes CPR Level C skills and certification. 

This course provides comprehensive First Aid and CPR techniques for those who need training for work requirements, or who want more knowledge on how to respond to emergencies in the workplace.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

This four-hour course will equip participants to describe the classification system, documentation, labelling, placarding, training requirements, recognition, and incident reporting of dangerous goods. 

A certification card for classes 2 - 6, 8 and 9 for road transport will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

This four-hour course will provide information to participants about the classification system, the labels used by suppliers and workplaces, and the contents and significance of the information on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

A certification card will be issued upon successful completion of this course.

Ground disturbance

This four-hour course is designed for personnel who are involved with a ground disturbance operation. The course will cover the various rules, regulations and procedures that are pertinent for ground disturbance work.

A certification card will be issued upon successful completion of this course.

Workplace harassment

Now more than ever employers are required to ensure workplaces are free from harassment. The federal government has recently proposed new regulations to increase employer responsibility for protecting employees against harassment in the workplace.
