Tool Purchase Day

Purchase your tools on campus at a discount from top tool manufacturers.

Automotive Service Technology and Diesel Equipment Technician: Thursday, Sept. 5

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Technology, Aircraft Structures Technician and Avionics Technology: Thursday, Aug. 29

Note: It is not mandatory that you purchase your tools at Tool Purchase Day.

Program orientation requirements

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Technology

Orientation date: Thursday, Aug. 29

Required equipment/tools: See the AMT tool list. Tools are required for the first week of class.

Required personal protective equipment: Coveralls, safety glasses and a respirator are required. You will purchase these at orientation.

Preparation courses: To support your success, SAIT offers some short courses before classes start, including PREP 100: The SAIT Experience (recommended) and ETHI 110: SAIT Ethical Practices (required). Learn more about these courses. 

Required textbooks: The Fall 2019 booklist will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 20. We recommend you wait to buy your textbooks until your first few days of classes. 

Anticipated supply costs: Budget approximately $1,450 for tools and $120 for coveralls, safety glasses and respirator. Books are approximately $600 for the first year and $450 for the second year.

Aircraft Structures Technician

Orientation date: Thursday, Aug. 29

Required equipment/tools: See the fall 2018 ACST tool list. Tools are required for the first week of class.

Required personal protective equipment: Coveralls, safety glasses and a respirator are required. You will purchase these at orientation.

Preparation courses: To support your success, SAIT offers some short courses before classes start, including PREP 100: The SAIT Experience (recommended) and ETHI 110: SAIT Ethical Practices (required). Learn more about these courses. 

Required textbooks: The Fall 2019 booklist will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 20. We recommend you wait to buy your textbooks until your first few days of classes. 

Anticipated supply costs: Budget approximately $800 for tools and $120 for coveralls, safety glasses and respirator. Books are approximately $400 for the year.

Automotive Service Technology

Orientation date: Wednesday, Aug. 28

Required equipment/tools: See the fall 2018 AST tool list. Tools are required by the third week of class.

This is a bring your own device (BYOD) program. An approved laptop is required for the first day of class. 

Required personal protective equipment: CSA-approved steel-toe boots and safety glasses are required on the first day of class. SAIT coveralls are required and can be purchased in the first week of class.

Preparation courses: To support your success, SAIT offers some short courses before classes start, including PREP 100: The SAIT Experience (recommended) and ETHI 110: SAIT Ethical Practices (required). Learn more about these courses.

Avionics Technology

Required equipment/tools: See the fall 2018 AXT tool list. Tools are required for the first week of class.

Required personal protective equipment: Coveralls and safety glasses are required. You will purchase these at Orientation.

Preparation courses: To support your success, SAIT offers some short courses before classes start, including PREP 100: The SAIT Experience (recommended) and ETHI 110: SAIT Ethical Practices (required). Learn more about these courses. 

Required textbooks: The Fall 2019 booklist will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 20. We recommend you wait to buy your textbooks until your first few days of classes.

Business Administration - Automotive Management

Orientation date: Wednesday, Aug. 28

Railway Conductor

Orientation date: Tuesday, Sept. 3

Required personal protective equipment: Clothing and boots approved for the rail industry. We recommend not purchasing PPE until after you start the program; we will discuss rail industry-approved PPE in class.

Pre-employment programs

Pre-Employment Automotive Service Technician

Orientation date: Firsat day of classes.

Required equipment/tools: Spring/Summer 2018 MASP tool list. Tools are required for the first week of class.
Although not a requirement, you will have more success upon graduation if you hold a driver's licence.

Required personal protective equipment: CSA-approved steel-toe boots, safety glasses and coveralls are required on the first day of class.

Preparation courses: It is recommended students take PREP 100 and ETHI 100. Learn more about these courses.

Required textbooks: The fall 2019 booklist will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 20. We recommend you wait to buy your textbooks until your first few days of classes. 

Anticipated supply costs: Budget approximately $2,000 or more for tools and $450 for PPE and books.
