SAIT Trojans get loud about mental health

SAIT's Trojan's get loud for the award-winning Make Some Noise campaign returns for the third year to raise awareness and reduce stigma.

When it comes to talking about mental health, stigma has long held the conversation captive. That's why the SAIT Trojans are once again breaking the silence through the third annual Make Some Noise for Mental Health campaign.

Supported by the Canadian Mental Health Association and sponsored by RBC, the award-winning, student-led initiative was created by the Trojans Outreach Program to promote mental health awareness on post-secondary campuses, including all 17 schools in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC.)

Mind your holistic health

"Mental health is as vital for student-athletes as their physical health," says Billie Rae Busby, SAIT Trojans Marketing and Communications Coordinator. "Whether it's just feeling anxious or overwhelmed or managing through a more serious mental illness, we all need to pay more attention to our mental well-being."

In October 2016, the SAIT Trojans received the Lieutenant Governor's Circle on Mental Health and Addiction True Imagination Award for launching the campaign.

"Make Some Noise for Mental Health is a prime example of the amazing things that can happen when caring and compassion dovetails with thought leadership and innovation," says Dr David Ross, SAIT President and CEO. "We're proud of our SAIT Trojans who have led by example and embraced the challenge of promoting mental wellness in such a positive and impactful way."
