Welcome to the new Dean of MacPhail School of Energy

Lynn Allan

Lynne Allan, an energy industry veteran who has held various executive-level positions, joins the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) team as Dean of the MacPhail School of Energy.

Allan joins SAIT from Suncor Energy where she held senior management positions for 20 years, including Vice President of Supply Chain Operations and Vice President Information Services. At Suncor, she held functional roles that supported oil sands, conventional oil, natural gas and offshore exploration and production. She also worked in refining and retail at the beginning of her career with Suncor, and has knowledge of the renewable energy sector and the industry's transportation networks including pipeline, rail and marine services.

Allan's experience provides her with a strong sense of stakeholder consultation requirements and fiscal realities facing the industry, allowing SAIT to align programming with the growing social need for safe, clean, affordable energy.

"Lynne understands the industry and SAIT will benefit from her experience and leadership skills," says Brad Donaldson, SAIT's Vice President, Academic. "It will translate into a competitive advantage for our students and industry partners."

For Allan, the move from industry to post-secondary education allows her to pursue a passion for learning.

"I've always been an advocate for education and believe in the importance of constantly challenging yourself to gain new knowledge and experiences," says Allan. "I'm looking forward to working with my new SAIT colleagues to ensure students have what they need to establish successful careers and generate value for the energy companies who employ them."

Allan began at SAIT on Monday, May 2.
