The 2016 SAIT President's Dinner: a gathering of makers, shapers and originals

A fresh new look for a second century. SAIT's President and CEO, Dr. David Ross, unveiled the Institute's new brand and logo to a group of 300 donors and friends at this year's President's Dinner on April 7, 2016. Dr. Ross says it's appropriate that SAIT is updating its image during the centennial year.

"For 100 years, SAIT has defined excellence in post-secondary education and now our new brand will help carry that designation into the future. It reinforces SAIT's desire to remain loyal to the past while continuing to advance the know-how of our students through action-based learning and collaborative partnerships."

President's Awards

As well as unveiling the brand, President Ross presented awards to student leaders, corporate partners and an individual for their dedication to SAIT.

Recipients of the President's Student Leadership Awards include Lorie Tran for her volunteer efforts on campus and in the community and the Student Petroleum Society, the largest student run club on campus for promoting industry- student relations.

President's DinnerCisco Systems Canada and Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta were presented with the President's Partnership Awards. Cisco Systems established SAIT's first endowed research chair - the Cisco Chair in E-Learning.  The CPA of Alberta has worked closely with SAIT to integrate professional accounting designation requirements from online study to in-classroom instruction.

Norma Carroll accepted the President's Cornerstone award on behalf of her late husband Clayton Carroll. Carroll's commitment to SAIT goes back 80 years to when he graduated as an auto mechanic. He was an accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist who volunteered his time to SAIT. He was also the Institute's first $1 million donor. The Clayton Carroll Automotive Centre was name in his honour.

"He had a generous spirit and unshakeable confidence in the value of what a leading-edge applied education could accomplish," says Dr. Ross. "He would enthusiastically meet with students and provide them with wisdom that many carry to this day. SAIT lost a great friend and champion when he passed away in 2011."

The President's Dinner, which is an annual event to thank and pay tribute to SAIT's friends, supporters and donors, features a four course gourmet meal prepared by School of Hospitality and Tourism students under the guidance of SAIT's world class chef instructors. The theme of this year's menu was "A Taste of History" to mark the historical centennial milestone SAIT is celebrating in 2016. Students representing all of SAIT's academic departments provided guests with some interesting tidbits and facts about SAIT's history throughout the evening.

Last night SAIT welcomed friends, supporters and donors to the annual President's Dinner. Guests enjoyed a four-course...
