Infused materials and robotics
July 20, 2015The Design, Fabrication and Testing team is working with 4Front Robotics to create a process that reduces the weight of their unmanned aerial vehicles. To do this, Principal Investigator Stefan Dalberg is using a vacuum system that infuses a resin (or glue) into fibreglass.
Infused materials are stronger and lighter. Using a vacuum system to infuse the resin also saves time — normally, the resin would be painted on manually via a 'wet-layup.' The infusion process is more efficient and allows the resin to fully permeate the fibreglass.
