Twice the celebration for SAIT

SAIT was celebrated twice for its commitment to applied research at the annual Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) annual conference held this week in Ottawa.

SAIT was recognized on May 1 as the Gold recipient of the CICan Applied Research Innovation Excellence Award. The award was received for SAIT's applied research partnerships created and fostered through Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS).

These partnerships benefit 250 small to medium-sized enterprises each year, large companies, government organizations, industry associations and more - in Calgary, across Alberta and throughout Western Canada. ARIS works with more than 200 students every year, providing them with a career-ready education, industry experience and entrepreneurship opportunities.

During the CICan conference, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, MP and Minister of Science, presented SAIT with $100,625 in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) College and Community Innovation Program. The Applied Research Tools and Instrument (ARTI) Grant will support SAIT's Green Building Technologies (GBT) research team.

"SAIT is honoured to be the recipient of CICan's Applied Research Innovation Excellence Award and equally pleased to receive additional funds from the Government of Canada supporting our Green Building Technologies research team," says Dr. David Ross, President and CEO of SAIT. "We are proud of our solution-focused research expertise. This leadership through collaboration enables our students, partners and researchers to take their innovative ideas and bring them to fruition."

The GBT research team will use these funds for specialized rainwater harvesting, testing and monitoring equipment. This equipment will be used by the research team to help improve the knowledge base of builders and developers in Alberta, especially small and medium enterprises, in rainwater solutions. It will also help promote environmental awareness among companies, industry associations, governmental organizations and the public.
