Jim Szautner named Avenue’s Top 40 Under 40
Jim Szautner, Associate Dean of the School of Manufacturing and Automation, is one of Calgary's Top 40 Under 40 according to the annual list put out by Avenue Magazine.
Since 1998, the magazine has bestowed top 40 honours to those that are "doing more and doing it better and faster."
Szautner's work to engage students, his championing of the trades and his unique path from a blue-collar job to a white-collar environment caught Avenue's attention.
"I was very excited - very honoured - when I heard I would be included on the list," says Szautner, 38, whose year with SAIT has been filled with extraordinary news and activity.
He played a significant role when the Amazing Race Canada made a stop at the Mayland Heights campus for a simulated crane challenge in July and was integral in the planning and execution when SAIT's 1966 time capsule was hoisted from the ground and jack-hammered out of a cement cube.
More originals make their mark
Szautner is in good company - this year's Top 40 Under 40 list also includes SAIT alumnus Colin Smith, owner of Green Event Services, and Jeff Orr, co-owner of Tool Shed Brewing. Orr, and his business partner Graham Sherman are the creators of Centenni-Ale, SAIT's centennial beer.
