Bruce Leslie is the Vice President, Trade and Investment Attraction at Calgary Economic Development. In this role, he leads a team of trade and investment professionals engaged in creating prosperity for Calgary and surrounding regions by working with local businesses in developing export strategies and attracting foreign investment and trade.
Prior to joining Calgary Economic Development, Leslie was Executive Director, Western Canada for the Conference Board of Canada, the country's leading applied research institute. As part of his role, he helped lead the development of the board across Western Canada.
Leslie has been in the media and communications sectors across Canada for more than 25 years, starting as a broadcast journalist at CBC and later in senior corporate positions at Canwest Global Communications, Winnipeg Free Press and Star Media Group. Throughout his career, he has provided leadership, strategic counsel and execution within complex organizations, including business development, marketing, communications, government and investor relations as well as innovative and effective public and community relations, advancement and philanthropy.
Between 1998 and 2009, Leslie was a senior communications and public relations executive with Canwest, which, at the time, was Canada's largest media company. At Canwest, he oversaw communications and public relations strategy, brand development and investor relations for the company and its subsidiaries in seven countries around the world.
Leslie also has several years of experience in both the agency and oil and gas sectors, working with industry leaders such as GPC Communications and TransCanada. He is serving, or has served, on a number of national, regional and local boards of not-for-profit and community organizations, including SAIT, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and National Screen Institute.
