COVID-19 confirmed cases

To keep everyone informed, SAIT is posting the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among members of the SAIT on-campus community. Information is shared here when a positive case is confirmed by Alberta Health Services (AHS). A Critical Update notification will be posted on SAITNOW (internal) and sait.ca at the same time. Suspected cases are not posted on this page but, if warranted, SAIT will issue a Critical Update on sait.ca and SAITNOW.

SAIT sends targeted communications to those in close contact with any suspected or confirmed cases. This is typically done through email. SAIT would issue a SAITALERT only in cases of great magnitude and having no other direct means to communicate to those possibly impacted.

Have you recently been tested for COVID-19?  If yes, you must remain off-campus while you wait for your test result.

It is essential all members of our community follow the procedures below for reporting cases. Our Safety and Community Services (SCS) department will work with needed areas and works with local public health officials on case management, contact tracing and often speaks directly with individuals who have been exposed to either a suspected or a confirmed case.

Processes

  • SAIT’s communication specific to suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases follows a decision framework. The framework supports decision making, realizing each case is unique and often requires individual approaches based on circumstances.
  • SAIT maintains the confidentiality of SAIT community members and works with AHS if notified of any positive cases connected to our campus.
  • Those known to be in close contact with the individual — classmates, faculty and staff — will be notified directly and directed to self-isolate at home.
  • If you do not hear from AHS or SAIT, you are not believed to be a close contact. Please call AHS at 811 with case-specific questions.
  • If necessary, some on-campus classes may be postponed while an investigation takes place. Information specific to any postponements will be provided to those impacted directly.
  • For any known suspected or confirmed cases, we follow the same procedures of contact tracing and cleaning and sanitization of our buildings.
  • If you are told by a student or employee, who is or has been on campus, that they are feeling ill, suspect they might have COVID-19 or have COVID-19, please:
    • if the individual is on campus, move them to your building’s identified isolation area
    • notify the Safety and Community Services department immediately.
  • If you test positive for COVID-19, you should immediately take the following steps:
    • Students – report it to your instructor or academic chair.
    • Employees – report it to your supervisor.

The health and safety of our SAIT community remains our top priority. We continue to work in alignment with direction from the Government of Alberta and AHS to ensure all health and safety guidelines are followed for those coming to campus.

If you have COVID-19 symptoms (runny nose, fever, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath), or were exposed to someone who has COVID-19, stay home and use the  Alberta Health Services online assessment tool to see if you should be tested. If you are a close contact of a COVID-19 case, you are legally required to  isolate for 14 days from the time you were exposed. This is mandatory under the Public Health Act.
