Ian Cowley is an instructor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism at SAIT. An alumnus of the same School, he is currently serving a three-year secondment as a Faculty Development Facilitator with SAIT's Centre for Instructional Technology and Development (CITD).
Prior to joining SAIT, Ian enjoyed a 25-year career in the hospitality industry, first as a chef, and then in management. His work and travels took him to England, France, and the United States to work in Michelin-starred restaurants, large resorts, and city hotels and restaurants.
Ian has a Provincial Instructors Diploma from Vancouver Community College, a Master of Education (MEd) from Athabasca University, and is currently completing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (EdD) with the University of Western Ontario. At SAIT, he is an Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) Master Facilitator, Teaching Excellence Foundations (TEF) Facilitator. Ian is also a sessional speaker on French culinary history in the Department of French, Italian, and Spanish at the University of Calgary.
Ian is a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters Calgary. He also volunteers domestically and overseas with Canadian Executive Services Organization (CESO-SACO), advising and helping to improve businesses in developing nations.
