S.T.A.R Event Series 2024 - Exploring the Use of Land Acknowledgements in Post-Secondary Institution

Post-secondary institutions have a long history (past and current) of colonial violence in Canada.

As part of the TRC 94 Calls to Action, non-Indigenous peoples have a responsibility to work towards reparations and healing with First Peoples and the land.

This session will focus on understanding of settler's role in reconcili-Action. Reverend Snow will discuss the history of land acknowledgements and the importance of writing and utilizing a personal and acknowledgement as one small step in reconciliation.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
