Life at SAIT

Rick’s vast experience in 3D modeling, photogrammetric collection/analysis, research practices, and construction project management allows Rick to advise countless capstone groups and assist learners from all schools within SAIT to discover their passion for drones and geomatics in theoretical and applied methods.

Professional accomplishments

As a Geomatics Engineer, drone pilot, and faculty member with over 25 years in the Geomatics industry, Rick is experienced in creating and delivering a highly technical and very specialized curriculum on Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), photogrammetry, GIS, and geomatics/civil engineering design topics.

Other concentrations include specialized industrial and commercial Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, airborne payload sensors, project management, photography, terrestrial laser scanning applications, web mapping, technical writing, and earthworks.

Rick is also an RPAS flight reviewer for Transport Canada.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
