How to apply for a student award

Frequently asked questions

If you are enrolled at SAIT as a continuous, full-time student or apprentice you may be eligible to apply.

There are exceptions for part-time and distance learning students that are outlined in the guide, so please review the criteria carefully.

Some awards require that you submit supporting documentation. You can do so here. In the document submission form you will be asked for your name, SAIT student ID, preferred email address and the name of the program you are taking. You will be able to submit multiple documents at one time. Simply select the document type then attach document to upload. Click Add and select the next document type and attach the document then continue until all your supplemental documentation is uploaded.

Be sure to submit your form – you will see the submit button below the FOIP statement. You should receive a confirmation email from the Student Awards office when your documents have been received.

International students who are citizens from any country other than Canada and who have been accepted at SAIT on a student visa are eligible for SAIT student awards. In order to collect the award, however, an international student must have either a Social Insurance Number (SIN) or an Individual Tax Number (ITN).

International students should contact the International Centre for details and assistance.

Please connect with scholarships@sait.ca if you want to inquire more about individual awards.

The Alumni and Development office will notify students selected for awards within four months of the application deadline. Recipients will receive an email to their SAIT email address with more information.

Effective Jan. 22, 2021 award, bursary and emergency funding payments will be issued by email money transfer (e-Transfer) directly to the student. E-Transfers are a fast and convenient way to receive a payment within the security of your online or mobile banking service.

Watch your SAIT email

After your award, bursary or emergency funding has been processed, you'll receive an email to your SAIT email address (firstname.lastname@edu.sait.ca). This first email is to advise you payment has been initiated by SAIT. The email will come from PayMyTuition.

Domestic students You'll receive a second email to let you know when your payment is on the way. Once you receive the second email, you can expect a third email with the actual e-Transfer link from Interac within the next 24 hours.

International students You'll receive a second email requesting your banking information.

If you're unsure what your SAIT email address is, you can find out by logging into mySAIT and selecting Personal Information on the mySAIT tab. If you don't have a SAIT email address on file, you'll receive these notifications via the preferred email address you have provided.

Access your payment

Follow the instructions in the email.

Domestic students will need a password to access the payment:

  • after you receive the email from Interac, login to mySAIT
  • Click on the myStudent tab
  • Click on Finance Information
  • Click on the link within the Collect Refund, Award, Bursary or Emergency Funding section
  • The Refund Authorization ID is the password referenced in the  Interac email

International students will need to click on the link in the email and enter their banking information to access the e-Transfer payment. Follow the instructions provided in the email from  PayMyTuition. Payments will be issued in Canadian dollars.

Email reminders

Up to eight email reminders will be sent to advise an e-Transfer payment is available. After the eighth email reminder, the payment will be canceled or reissued.

Transaction limits

If an award, bursary, or emergency funding payment exceeds $10,000 the payment will be distributed over multiple transfers in $10,000 increments. For example, if the total payment is $25,000, three e-Transfers will be issued over three 24-hour periods and each transfer will have a unique Refund Authorization ID.

  • After you receive the email from Interac, login to mySAIT
  • Click on the myStudent tab
