Meet our #SAITfaces

Gerry Duffy’s resume reads more like an atlas.⁣

That’s good news for the students in SAIT’s School of Business who benefit from Gerry’s real-world — and around-the-world — experience and expertise, as well as his passion for teaching.⁣

His career, which has seen him manage supply chains for aerospace parts and redesign transportation and distribution networks to overseeing all site support services for a massive oil and gas construction project, has taken him from the UK to across Europe, the Falkland Islands, Hong Kong and Norway.⁣

But in the latter part of his career, Gerry found himself eager to try teaching and volunteered to teach supply chain management to new military recruits. Later, after moving to Calgary and working as a consultant, SAIT approached him to teach an introductory supply chain course. When that turned into a full-time offer, Gerry was delighted to accept.⁣

Even after joining SAIT, his global experience didn’t stop. In 2019, as SAIT won a contract to develop a logistics curriculum for the United Arab Emirates’ Higher Colleges of Technology, Gerry headed to Dubai to teach the course’s first semester.⁣

An instructor since 2016, Gerry has fulfilled a long-held ambition of educating the next generation.⁣

“I get excited when I see the connection as students suddenly understand a concept. The best part of this job is passing on the skills and experience I’ve acquired over my 35-year career. It’s paying it forward.”
