MOMENTS OF GRATITUDE

2023 Donor Impact Report

EVERY MOMENT TELLS A STORY OF IMPACT

One of the best ways to reap the benefits of gratitude is to notice the many things you’re grateful for every day.  Gratitude is powerful; simply reflecting on the instances we’re thankful for can have a positive impact on mental health, well-being and our community. It’s also important to share the significance of these occurrences with others.

Thanks to your dedication and support, we have many moments of gratitude to reflect on this year. These occasions weave together a story of empowering student well-being, expanding world-class education, building a philanthropic community and moving us forward faster.

MOMENTS OF INCREASED
STUDENT WELL-BEING

Your contributions have the power to transform the lives of students everyday. Physical, mental, emotional and social health are incredibly important for students to focus on their studies.

I am a single mom to four great kids. It is hard to believe how much the cost of living has increased in the last year – so I am thankful for this financial blessing which will go towards groceries and fuel. Your generosity is humbling. Thank you from the entire Sewlal family!

MOMENTS THAT EMPOWERED
WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION

An education at SAIT is like no other. SAIT Empowers students through an exceptional applied learning experience, so that when they graduate they are ready to embrace, inspire and lead change in our communities.

“Thank you very much for the support, I am immensely grateful. I am an architect from Colombia and this award is one less burden for my wife and me for the next semester but also a great incentive that fills me with motivation to give much more of myself. Thanks again!”

GIVING SAIT STUDENTS THE HANDS-ON PRACTICE
THEY NEED TO SAVE LIVES.

2022 was a difficult year for Emergency Medical Services in Alberta — a shortage of paramedics and emergency response personnel was identified as a crisis. SAIT’s Primary Care Paramedic and Advanced Care Paramedic programs will help alleviate this shortage by producing graduates with life-saving skills.

To graduate from these programs, students must complete a practicum placement, and any hands-on training and experience they receive prior to these placements are crucial to their success.

A gift from the John Bowlen Legacy Flow Through Fund 2 at Calgary Foundation added two new high-fidelity manikins, a training ambulance bay and two power stretchers for students to train on.

This new equipment provides invaluable experience to students and will help meet the government’s additional seat requirements for these programs. The major bottleneck in increasing seats in paramedic programs is the availability of practicum placements. Thanks to the new equipment provided by the fund, students have the chance to prepare more extensively prior to, and then excel in, their placements.

MOMENTS THAT BUILD A
PHILANTHROPIC COMMUNITY

SAIT is built on, and empowered by a strong, passionate and dedicated community of like-minded individuals with a desire to create a better future for SAIT students. The philanthropic spirit and commitment of each or our donors is the reason for of our accomplishments.

MOMENTS THAT MOVE US
FORWARD FASTER

The way people work is changing faster than ever. At SAIT, we're committed to providing innovative programming and experiences for students so that when they graduate, they have the flexible and dynamic skills they need to thrive in the workforce of today and tomorrow.

This scholarship will greatly help me achieve my academic goals and relieve some of the financial burdens of pursuing higher education. It is truly heartening to know that organizations like yours support students like me and help us achieve our dreams.

DRIVING THE FUTURE FORWARD WITH ELECTRIC VEHICLE
READINESS TRAINING AND YOUTH SKILLS PROGRAMMING.

On March 23, 2023, the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announced an $850,000 investment to support the delivery of a greener future through SAIT's School of Transportation.

The funding commitment unveiled at SAIT's Transportation and Manufacturing Industry Night, will aid the development of electric vehicle (EV) readiness training and youth skills programming. A portion of the investment will also be allocated to support Industry Nights over the next five years. These events provide valuable networking opportunities for students to connect with future employers in the automotive industry. They also allow industry the chance to engage with much-needed talent — giving them a sense of the next wave of professionals in their industry and allowing them to plan.

As Canada continues to face a skills gap in the trades, SAIT has a critical role in training the existing and future workforce. EV readiness training will offer hands-on experience as students diagnose and repair EV systems and components. Moving forward, SAIT will work collaboratively with industry, government and area school boards to develop and deliver training focused on sustainability, ensuring today's workforce is equipped with the knowledge needed to support a greener economy.
