The health and well-being of SAIT students, employees and guests remains important to all of us as Alberta continues to live with COVID-19. In alignment with guidance from Alberta Health Services, SAIT strives to continue providing a safe working and learning environment.
You can help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses on campus. Isolation helps prevent the spread by reducing the number of people you could infect by staying home and avoiding others.
If you have respiratory virus symptoms or test positive for any respiratory illness you should stay home until your symptoms have improved, you feel well enough to resume normal activities, and you are free of fever for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
It is also recommended that you wear a mask when you are around others in indoor settings for a total of 10 days from when your symptoms started. Please monitor your health and remain in contact with your instructor, academic chair or supervisor who will support you in managing your absence and return to campus.

Health and safety on campus
Find what you need to know about health and safety requirements for coming to campus.
Do not come to campus if you:
- have tested positive for COVID-19 or are being tested
- have one or more core COVID-19 symptoms.
If you're unsure about whether to come to campus, stay home and consult Alberta Health Services.
Before coming to campus
Anyone coming to campus should monitor their health status for possible symptoms of COVID-19 every day to help protect others and prevent the spread.
If you have a pre-existing condition or require more support visiting campus, contact Accessibility Services (for students) or Employee Services (for employees) to find out what accommodations might be available to you.
While you're on campus
SAIT continues to promote healthy and safe learning, working, and living environment.
What we're doing to keep you safe
Facilities Management is performing the following air filtration recommendations from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE):
- SAIT has installed the highest Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rated filters that each system can accommodate. As we upgrade a system’s ability to bring in more air and push that air through the system, we will also upgrade filtration.
- Based on class schedules, we have programmed our air systems to increase the number of air changes before and after occupancy to flush the air from the buildings.
- During occupancy, we will introduce as much outside air as possible.
- Facilities Management will continue routine maintenance to ensure air handling units are running at optimal performance.

Prevention
Get the vaccine
SAIT encourages its community members to get every vaccine dose they are eligible for. All approved vaccines are safe, effective and continue to play a role in preventing COVID-19 infection and limiting its spread. More importantly, these vaccines help prevent serious illness from COVID-19 infection.
Stay informed with these vaccination resources:
Rapid testing
Following the Government of Alberta's decision to discontinue providing COVID-19 rapid antigen testing kits, SAIT will no longer offer these tests to the campus community. Those needing a rapid test are advised to contact their nearest pharmacy for purchase options.
COVID-19 hygiene
In addition to wearing a mask and getting vaccinated, practicing good hygiene habits can protect you and those around you from spreading COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.
- Wash or sanitize your hands often.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes.
- Avoid touching your face.
Please continue with proper community health and hygiene habits, including frequent handwashing and respiratory etiquette.
- Disinfect work areas, tools and equipment before and after use.
Mask-wearing at SAIT
Wearing a mask in public can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses. Wearing a mask can help reduce your risk of infection and help protect people from being exposed to your germs.

About SAIT

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.
SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
