Testing Services

SAIT's Testing Services offers current students from SAIT and other institutions flexible options to take exams. Our classroom-based testing environment is video-monitored and our computers are equipped with LanSchool software to monitor activity, restrict access, and help ensure exam integrity.

Testing Services abides by the following SAIT invigilation policies and procedures:

Location and hours of operation

Exams are held at the Testing Centre, MC221, Stan Grad Centre. Please refer to our hours of operation when booking exams and making inquiries.

Please note that during SAIT's final exam periods, exam booking restrictions apply and the online booking system for admission exams, keyboarding assessments, placement exams into Academic Upgrading and external exams will be unavailable.

What to expect when writing an exam

ID is required

Testing Services requires government or institution-issued identification (driver's license, passport, school ID card, etc.). Some institutions require us to view two pieces of identification. If you are writing an external exam, please check with your company/institution and come prepared.

Only bring authorized materials

Only exam-specified materials (for example, calculator, pencil, and eraser) and a re-sealable drink container are allowed in the testing room. Examinees will not be permitted to bring in electronic dictionaries, cell phones, smart watches, music players, anything with wi-fi capabilities or other unauthorized material (class notes, textbooks, etc.) unless the exam instructions explicitly state these items are allowed.

If you have questions regarding permitted exam materials, please contact your instructor, institution or company.

You are not permitted to bring guests into the Testing Centre at SAIT. Please have guests wait outside and arrange for childcare before writing your exam.

Know the facilities

The Testing Centre consists of computer-based and paper-based exam rooms. We do our best to maintain proper testing conditions and can provide earplugs and/or noise-cancelling headphones on request. Access to water fountains and restrooms is nearby if required.

Exam accomodations

If you have documented disabilities and require accommodations for your SAIT exam, please contact Accessibility Services. If you are writing an external exam through SAIT's Testing Services, please contact your institution/company and have them include your accommodations in the exam request.

External exam invigilation

An external exam is an examination that comes from an institution/company other than SAIT and requires a SAIT invigilator or proctor for supervision. Testing Services will distribute, invigilate and collect examinations for external organizations and other universities and colleges.

To book an external exam, contact your institution for exam invigilation request forms, required contact information, and courier or mailing fees before contacting Testing Services. Copies of the exam, as well as clear instructions and procedures, will be required. Exam sitting and courier fees must be paid by the examinee or sending institution before writing.

Steps to arrange your external exam:

1: Email your request

Email the following information to external.exams@sait.ca.

  • your full name
  • institution/company
  • exam name and course code
  • indicate whether it is an online or paper-based exam
  • other pertinent details regarding your exam(s) and institution(s), materials required, etc.
  • requested exam date and time*
  • length of exam (please see our hours of operation)

*External exams cannot be scheduled during SAIT's final exam time periods.

You will receive an email response within five business days. We will advise at that time of any issues/concerns.

2: Request is accepted

If your request is accepted, exams must be arranged by you and your institution in a time frame suitable to your institution/company.

3: Pay $100 sitting fee

There is $100 fee per exam. Fees must be paid beforehand by either you or your institution. You must let us know in advance who is covering this fee.

4: Deliver exams

It is the responsibility of either you or your institution to arrange delivery of exams in advance of the examination. You or your institution must provide a prepaid envelope (Purolator, Fed-Ex, stamps) to return paper-based exams and any written materials required by your institution. Please speak with your institution about return envelopes and postage.
