Life at SAIT

Wendy was a guest lecturer in construction financing and quantity surveying at (SAIT) and the University of Calgary. This experience reawakened the joy of teaching and lead her to join the instructional team at SAIT's School of Construction in 2013.

She now teaches in the Civil Engineering Technology program – the same program she completed prior to working in the construction industry.

Professional accomplishments

Wendy Hobbs is a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) with experience across all sectors of construction in construction loan monitoring, cost consulting, and risk management. She has been involved in a wide range of complex projects with values exceeding $100 million.

She is also Gold Seal Certified by the Canadian Construction Association.

Wendy believes learning should be fun and enjoys using games and stories to bring life to her course material. Wendy has been nominated for the SAITSA Instructor Excellence Award twice.

Wendy sat on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) in a variety of roles - most recently as Education Director.

She also sat on the Board of Directors for the Prairies and Northwest Territories affiliate as Education Director, President, and Past President and is the host of the CIQS Podcast - Knowledge Counts.

In 2018 she was awarded the Lois Metcalfe Fellowship Award from the CIQS for serving the Institute in a meritorious capacity.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
