Life at SAIT

Leonard has taught in the BA and BBA Accounting streams since January 2020.

Leonard’s favourite aspect of the job is being able to impact the lives of the next generation of accountants directly. He has been described as teaching accounting to business students, mentoring them in their career and life journeys, and serving as a role model for students entering the profession.

He serves as the Faculty Advisor for the SAIT Accounting Society (SAS) and SAIT’s Accounting Case Competition Team coach.

Education

Leonard has a Bachelor of Management (BMgt) in Accounting from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Athabasca University. He also holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations in Accounting.

Professional accomplishments

Leonard is highly active within the accounting community and is currently the Vice-Chair for the Calgary Chapter of Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA).

Beyond his inspiring work in the classroom, Leonard has received the CPA Alberta Early Achievement Award (2023) and the CPA Alberta Full Scholarship Award (2013-2015). He has been nominated three times for the SAIT Instructor Excellence Award (2021, 2022, 2023).

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
