New NATO test centre taps into SAIT’s applied research and innovation services

SAIT offers expertise in materials science, advanced manufacturing and robotics

NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) network is working to connect innovators with the resources needed to develop dual-use technologies with a wide variety of security and civilian applications.

SAIT’s Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) is joining the network to lend its expertise in materials science, advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation through the Centre for Innovation and Research in Advanced Manufacturing and Materials (CIRAMM).

“In 2020, ARIS established the Centre for Innovation and Research in Advanced Manufacturing and Materials, reaffirming our commitment to tackling industry's dynamic challenges and driving the shift towards smarter, more sustainable manufacturing and materials systems,” says Dr. David Ross, SAIT President and CEO. “This announcement marks a significant milestone and stands as a testament to the incredible progress within CIRAMM and the province.”

As one of two test centres in Alberta and 13 in Canada, CIRAMM will provide services to support start-ups and entrepreneurs as they demonstrate and validate emerging technological security solutions. Access to SAIT’s cutting-edge facilities and advice from our team of research experts will be available to innovators associated with DIANA’s more than 200 affiliated sites and centres.

Each testing site was selected by their home nation to promote collaboration with NATO as it upholds the democratic values of 32 member countries — representing one billion citizens.

According to Rajani, joining the DIANA network opens a wealth of collaborative opportunities to exchange knowledge across the NATO nations.
