SAIT’s annual Family Campaign is all about leaving a lasting and positive impact on others — namely SAIT students and their communities. It’s a time when the SAIT family comes together to build community, challenge each other and support student success.

Grace Chantiam left a positive impact on her colleagues at SAIT every day. As a manager in Employee Services, she worked hard to build a positive and supportive community within her team and across campus. Grace touched many lives across SAIT and was a friend to all.

On Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, Grace passed away after a brave year-long fight against cancer. Throughout her cancer experience, Grace shared her journey on her blog, educating and supporting thousands of people worldwide.

Her team in Employee Services described Grace as the heart and soul of the department, keeping everyone organized, challenged, and uplifted during difficult times.

“You are missed terribly, Grace. You put smiles on people's faces whenever you walked into a room. You had a lovely spirit and a good heart. The world needs more people like you.” one colleague wrote after Grace’s passing.

“I will never forget your beautiful smile and warm friendly nature. You very much lit up the room, and I am glad I had the privilege of knowing and working with you over the years. Your duties as an angel here on earth are now complete & may you now rest in peace.” said another.

“She kept us organized, challenged us to improve, and she cheered us up when the going was tough. She was a friend to everyone, and it is going to be very hard without her.” shared Greg Juliano, Associate Vice President, Employee Services.

Grace wanted her legacy to represent her passion for learning at SAIT in the form of scholarships for students pursuing their studies in Hospitality and Human Resources. Through support from her family, friends and colleagues at SAIT, the Grace Chantiam Bracci Memorial Award was created to continue Grace’s desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Grace's legacy will be honoured for years to come through the lasting and positive impact this award will have on future students, their families and communities.
