The SAIT Dental Clinic operates to provide our Dental Assisting students with practical experience under the supervision of licensed dental health care professionals. Our students provide a professional and relaxed atmosphere with an emphasis on oral hygiene instruction and prevention of oral diseases. Although our services do not replace regular dental exams, they can help families that are unable to visit a dentist on a regular basis, and can significantly reduce the cost of your next visit with a family dentist.
Dental Assisting students offer dental services at our on-campus clinic from January to May each year and preventative dentistry throughout the year. Appointments are approximately 2 to 3 hours long and focus on education and prevention of oral diseases. Book an appointment today.
Dental services and fees
Polish and Fluoride
A dental exam is not provided, and your appointment at the SAIT Dental Clinic is not meant to replace your regular dental examination with your family dentist. Please note that we do not currently offer restorative treatment such as fillings, crowns or root canals.
Polishing - Polishing is a technique used to remove dental plaque and stains from the outer surfaces of the teeth. A polish is not a substitute for a complete dental cleaning (scaling) that removes the hard deposits from the teeth.
Fluoride - Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in many foods and water. Topical fluoride is placed on the outer surfaces of the teeth to help prevent tooth decay.
Desensitizing - This treatment will be offered to patients who suffer from dental hypersensitivity at their polish appointment. A fluoride varnish will be applied to sensitive teeth.Fees: $20 per person per service | $40 per family of 3 or more living at the same address
X-ray services are provided to patients 4 years of age and older. Each x-ray is processed at SAIT and provided to you at the end of your appointment.
- Your dentist can prescribe the x-rays required or the dentist on staff at SAIT can determine which x-rays are required.
Fees: $20 per person per service | $40 per family of three or more living at the same address
SealantsDental sealants are a thin plastic coating applied to the chewing surfaces and grooves of the teeth to help protect against tooth decay. Children, teenagers and adults with deep grooves or fissures on the biting surfaces of their teeth that do not already have fillings will benefit from dental sealants.
Fees: $20 per person
Custom sport mouth guards and whitening trays
Sport mouth guards act as a shock absorber. They may protect against concussions, neck injuries, lacerations and fractures while playing sports. Sport mouth guards cannot be used as night guard (used to treat grinding and clenching of the teeth).
Sport mouth guards are recommended for athletes of all ages and abilities, including players of high contact sports like hockey, martial arts, football, soccer, basketball and rugby. Sport mouth guards may protect against chipped or broken teeth, root and bone damage, tooth loss, jaw fracture, cerebral hemorrhage, concussion and neck injury.
- Custom dental sport guards and whitening trays will be fabricated for your upper and lower teeth.
- Two appointments (approximately 30 minutes each) are required: for impressions of your teeth and for a fitting.
Fees: $20 per person per guard or tray
Scaling - Dental scaling is the removal of the hard deposits from the teeth. Dental scaling must be performed by a dentist, dental hygienist or dental assistant with additional training.
- The Preventive Dentistry Module is a post-graduate dental assisting module that offers limited scaling to the public. This module is not offered each year and all patients must be screened for eligibility. For more information on the PDM Clinic, please call 403.284.8380.
- Dental Scaling is not part of the polish and fluoride clinics for adult patients.
