How to apply

Teachers or group leaders interested in the Career Exploration Centre can apply online. Please review the following prior to submitting your application:

  • Career Exploration Centre applications are open year-round and are received on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Those who apply early or well in advance of their requested session date are more likely to receive their requested booking dates.
  • A separate application should be submitted for each class/group (up to 40 participants at a time). We encourage teachers to combine classes to fill all 40 student spots.
  • Teachers on modified school year calendars or who wish to start a new academic year with a career focus are encouraged to apply for earlier sessions.
  • Ensure your bus drop-off and pick-up times are four and a half hours apart and specify the times on your application form.
  • Indicate the dates your class or group is unable to attend a Career Exploration Centre session.

How it works

Before your visit

Once your visit is confirmed, your students or group members will engage in a career interests activity provided to you by our facilitators. This work takes less than an hour to complete and will start to build curiosity and familiarity around the 31+ careers at the Career Exploration Centre.

The day starts with a brief orientation and introduction to key concepts that will help participants think about careers. They will then have the opportunity to try hands-on simulated career tasks, chosen from the career options they reviewed in advance.

There is a 30-minute lunch break, and participants will sit among SAIT students and absorb the rhythm of campus life. Please note that participants will need to bring their own lunch from home.

Participants will have the option to take a campus tour and participate in a second activity, obtaining more information about careers they are interested in and learning about the next steps in career exploration.

After your visit

After your visit, you'll be provided with resources for your students and group members to investigate and discover more about industries and careers about which they want to learn.

Program length and timing

Approximately four and a half hours in length, our program can begin as early as 8:30 am and end as late as 3:30 pm.

Class/group sizes and supervision

Our sessions accommodate up to 40 participants at a time.

If you have a larger group, we recommend you apply for additional session dates.

Each class or group must be accompanied by at least one teacher or group leader and meet the minimum supervision ratios of their school board or organization. A higher supervision ratio is recommended for higher needs groups. Teachers and supervisors are responsible for managing behavioural issues and must oversee their students/groups at all times while on SAIT campus.

Getting to SAIT campus

All schools and groups are responsible for booking and paying for transportation in advance. Please book your transportation as soon as you receive confirmation for your session at the Career Exploration Centre.
