Vision Care Sciences Programs
Did you know that seeing is so important that it takes up more than 50% of the brain’s functionality?
If your interest is piqued, you will want to learn more about SAIT’s new Vision Care Sciences programs — Optician diploma and Ophthalmic and Optometric Assisting certificate. Both programs will be offered September 2020.
Optician diploma
The Optician program trains students to be front line health care professionals. Graduates will be skilled in assessing and filling eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions, ensuring a proper fit of eyeglasses and contact lenses, and determining clients’ eyewear needs.
The program includes two unpaid eight-week practicums where the students apply their skills in a workplace setting in which they are being evaluated.

Ophthalmic and Optometric
Assisting certificate
The Ophthalmic & Optometric Assisting certificate program prepares the students to operate as medical office professionals with specialized knowledge in ophthalmic (eye health) and optometric (vision care) terminology and clinical procedures.
This program will be unique across Canada, by offering dual certification that encompasses both ophthalmic and optometric competencies. This provides graduates with multiple opportunities to integrate in a variety of settings in the vision care industry.
