SAIT Children & Youth Programs' mission is to deliver unique, engaging, educational and skill-building experiences to youth in Grades 1 - 12 in a safe and fun environment. Positive, energetic and engaged staff and volunteers are the keys to ensuring this valuable experience happens.

Camp Administrators

Is your passion to work with children and youth? Are you a strong leader and mentor? Are you able to respond to emergency situations with efficiency and ease? SAIT Summer Camps are hiring Camp Administrators for its 2019 summer day camps. 

Candidates will have experience and/or knowledge in the area of child and youth education as well as experience supervising peers/adults. This individual should also have strong verbal and written communication skills evidenced by their customer service experience, which will be utilized frequently in this program. 

As part of the administration team, Camp Administrators must have strong interpersonal skills. These individuals will be responsible for answering public inquiries, contacting families by phone and/or email and being a reliable leader for our staff. 

This fast-paced, deadline-driven position requires an exceptional attitude, organizational skills, time management capabilities and communication skills. They will be essential to ensuring the camp experience runs smoothly and is enjoyable for campers, camp leaders, parents and staff. 

Camp Administrators may be assigned to support particular areas of summer camp operations, including, but not limited to curriculum development, data assistance, inclusion planning and inventory management. If you have experience in one of these areas, please make note of this in your cover letter.

Camp Administrators report to the Camp Director.

Employment dates, hours and wages

  • May 1 - Aug. 30, 2019 (start and end dates are negotiable)
  • 40 hours per week | Monday - Friday (except on statutory holidays)
  • you must be available to work anytime between 7 am and 6 pm
  • this position may entail some overtime in the evening or on weekends. There are a variety of shifts the administration team will cover when the camp season is underway. 
  • a wage of $22.83 per hour. This is an AUPE position.
  • all positions work on SAIT's main campus


Work with camp staff and volunteers

  • Provide support and offer mentorship to camp leaders and volunteers.
  • Educate and train camp leaders in lesson planning, camp management and conflict resolution. 
  • Develop trust and respect with administration and staff to create a positive camp atmosphere. 

Supervise children and youth

  • Provide support to campers one-on-one as well as small and group settings. 
  • Mediate conflict with integrity and consistency.
  • Substitute as needed for ill or absent camp leaders.
  • Help provide a safe, healthy environment for campers to thrive. 

Teamwork and leadership

  • Model teaching best practices with leaders.
  • Support and reinforce SAIT Summer Camps policies and procedures. 
  • Promote a positive and respectful team atmosphere and work to create a cohesive staff unit.
  • Manage stress effectively, being a source of stability to camp leaders.

Emergency response

  • React and adapt quickly to emergency situations involving youth. 
  • Display a strong ability to manage stressful situations calmly and effectively. 
  • Consistently enforce SAIT Summer Camps policies and procedures with children, youth, staff, families and the public.

Communications and reporting

  • Communicate with parents/guardians about their child's experience at camps and address concerns as required. 
  • Train staff in best practices of inclusion and follow inclusion processes.
  • Discuss camper accommodations and strategies with parents/guardians.
  • Answer phone calls, email and in-person inquiries and communicate with campers, parents/guardians and staff in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Organize records and input sensitive data according to SAIT policies. 
  • Edit, organize and distribute written camp information to staff, parents and campers on a regular basis. 
  • Assist with various office and administration tasks.

Camp Leaders

SAIT Summer Camps are looking for energetic camp leaders. If you are passionate about working with children and youth, love to have fun and have knowledge in any of the below camp theme areas, we encourage you to apply. 

Camp participants range from Grades 1 - 12. 

Camp themes

Business Do you have a background or education in the field of business? Get ready for a fast-paced summer filled with advertising, money management, investing, supply chain exploration, entrepreneurship and so much more. If you happen to know a thing or two about MinecraftTM, that's even better.
Wood trades If you have experience in wood trades, spend your summer working with a variety of age groups teaching campers about hand tools and power tools, construction materials, and creativity in the projects they create.
Drafting and design Help campers discover the world of architecture and design! If you consider yourself an expert in the areas of drafting and design, join us to work with campers using SketchUpTM and other drafting software to teach them how to create drawings and turn them into reality.
Energy, environment and engineering From Engineercraft to Green Energy, camp leaders will have the chance to help campers explore the many facets of SAIT's MacPhail School of Energy. Educate campers using basic structural concepts and MinecraftTM to show them the world of engineering. Explore different environmental concepts and help campers realize a world of opportunity.
Health and public safety Work with campers to increase their knowledge of the health and wellness sector. No week will look the same when you are cooking up goodies in the kitchen one week and visiting the STARS Air Ambulance headquarters the next! 
Hospitality and tourism Whether you are a pastry making pro or a culinary expert, we want you to join our team. There's only one catch — you have to be enrolled in either a Baking & Pastry Arts or Professional Cooking program at SAIT to be eligible for these positions.
Information and communications technologies Make use of your technical skills! ICT camps encompass many unique areas including 3D modelling, digital photography, mobile app development, movie making and game programming with Raspberry Pi. 
Learner and academic services Whether it be STEM, English Language Arts or even drama that piques your interests, bring your knowledge and high energy to the table. Let your passion for your area of expertise shine through.
Welding Are you a SAIT Welding Engineering Technology or Pre-Employment Welding student? We are looking for passionate camp leaders who will help educate campers in the field of welding. Test out your creativity by teaching youth how to weld dinosaurs, benches and more.
Robotics Spend your summer building and programming robots! If you are technologically inclined, we are looking for camp leaders to help youth gain hands-on experience in the field of robotics. 
Transportation As a transportation camp leader, you will lead a wide variety of camps including, Rotor Heads UAV, Exploring Trades: Auto Body, Exploring Trades: Cranes & Hoist, Go Cart Racers and Gear Heads. 
Trojans sports Use your athletic expertise to help campers stay active this summer! We're looking for energetic camp leaders to help campers develop teamwork skills, improve their athletic abilities and have fun. Depending on your sport-specific skills, you might be a fit for basketball, soccer, volleyball or even hockey. If you can't decide what sport is right for you, we also have sports camps that offer a little bit of everything.

Employment dates, hours and wages

  • June 24 - Aug. 23, 2019 (end dates may vary with some positions ending Aug. 16, 2019.) Mandatory training takes place from June 24 - 28, 2019. 
  • camp leaders work Monday to Friday (except on statutory holidays), 8.5 hours daily. Shifts vary between the hours of 7 am and 5:30 pm. 
  • all positions work on SAIT's main campus. 
  • a wage of $16 per hour


Supervision and safety of participants

  • Ensure the safety, well-being and enjoyment of campers from Grades 1 - 12.
  • Supervise campers during before and aftercare, lunchtime and field trips.
  • Assess and manage risk within programs and while supervising. 
  • React and adapt quickly to emergency situations involving children and youth.
  • Display a strong ability to manage stressful situations calmly and effectively. 
  • Consistently follow program policies and procedures with campers. 

Deliver lessons

  • Plan, lead and modify program lessons and activities.
  • Set-up and clean-up program areas daily.
  • Make accommodations for campers with varying learning needs.
  • Work collaboratively with co-leaders/instructors to set-up and deliver programs.

Lead children and youth

  • Mediate conflict among participants with integrity and consistency.
  • Demonstrate and model appropriate behaviours for children and youth.
  • Participate in recreation activities with campers.

Communications and reporting

  • Communicate professionally with parents/guardians about their child's experience at camp.
  • Implement and use strength-based language when communicating with campers.
  • Document and inform the administration staff of any incidents within programs.


  • 18 years of age or older
  • valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C 
  • prior experience working with children and youth in a camp or day program is an asset. 

Successful applicants will be required to provide a clean and current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search prior to their first day of employment. Successful applicants will also be required to undergo CPR/First Aid training if they do not already possess a valid certification.

Volunteer opportunities

SAIT Summer Camps is a busy place to be. We rely on the people who volunteer for our camps and greatly appreciate them. For this reason, we look for the following in our volunteers:

Volunteer Camp Leader Assistants

Volunteer opportunities are for students currently in Grades 10, 11, or 12 that want to develop leadership skills and work in a fun environment.

  • High school volunteers must be entering grade 11 or 12 in September 2019 or have graduated high school in June 2019. 
  • Volunteers must submit a cover letter and resume stating their interest in becoming a volunteer with SAIT Summer Camps. Applications are due no later than June 24, 2019, by 4 pm.
  • Volunteers must obtain and provide a clean and current (within one year of September 2017) criminal record check with vulnerable sector search. Visit Calgary Police Services for more information. If you successfully obtain a volunteer position at SAIT Summer Camps, we will provide you with an official letter and reimburse the cost of the record check.


  • Attend the mandatory training day in June.
  • Prepare camp materials.
  • Co-lead some activities.
  • Help campers complete activities.
  • Develop a positive, fun and safe camp environment for children and youth.
  • Monitor camper behaviour to ensure all camper safety and rules/regulations are followed.
  • Develop games, crafts and activities for lunch supervision/during camps.
  • Photocopy and/or obtain supplies for camp leaders.
  • Escort campers around the campus when needed.
  • If required and applicable, provide information for camper incident reports.
  • Other volunteer duties as assigned.

Time commitment

Monday - Friday | 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (1/2 for lunch)
No camps on statutory holidays.

You can volunteer for as many weeks as you would like (no partial weeks please). We are flexible in accommodating appointments you may have during the day and your vacation schedule.
