FAQ

When is the virtual ceremony?

The virtual ceremony will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4. Tune in to the livestream at 12:30 pm when t he scrolling of names will begin.

Similar to our in-person daytime ceremonies, the event begins at 1 pm. In case you missed it, the video will be on sait.ca for viewing after the live stream.

Can my family take part in the virtual ceremony?

Yes, your friends and family can stream from anywhere through sait.ca! This is a special time and we want you to celebrate together, while physical distancing.

Is the virtual ceremony mandatory?

The virtual ceremony is not mandatory, but we hope you’ll join in the celebration! If you decide not to join and have been approved to graduate, your credential will still be conferred and you will receive it via blockchain around the time of the ceremony.

A printed parchment will also be available — see the grad package pick up and distribution tab.

Will you be announcing names for the virtual ceremony?

We will be individually recognizing graduands digitally. Graduand names will begin scrolling at 12:30 pm and the list of names will then be printed in the commemorative program.

SAIT mailed grad packages for the Spring 2020 Virtual Convocation Ceremony. Will you be doing that again?

We're preparing your grad package with everything you need to celebrate your convocation — it includes your parchment, cap and tassel!

There are two possible ways you'll receive your grad package:

  • You can come to campus to pick it up before the ceremony. Watch your inbox for details, as you’ll need to register for a scheduled time slot to ensure needed social distancing.
  • If you’re unable to pick up your grad package, it will be mailed to you.

While our goal is for you to receive your package before the ceremony, given the current situation due to COVID-19, delivery by Nov. 4 is not guaranteed.

Will there be a virtual or printed program?

A printed program will be included in the grad packages.

Other schools are collecting messages and photos of their graduates, is SAIT doing this for the virtual ceremony?

We can’t wait to celebrate with you and welcome you to the alumni family. Stay tuned for contest details!

I’ve already applied to graduate. If I’m unable to participate in the virtual ceremony, will I still graduate?

Yes, once your grades have been reviewed and approved, you’ll be eligible for graduation. You’ll receive your digital credential via blockchain and your parchment in your grad package (see grad package tab).

What is a digital credential?

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, a digital credential will be made available to you via blockchain technology.

Instructions on how to access your digital credential will be sent to your email from our partner ODEM.

The technology used is secure, free, readily available and immediately shareable. This allows you to have greater control over and access to your records.

Can I still purchase SAIT merchandise?

Items can be purchased online through the SAIT Bookstore. Please visit bkstr.com/saitstore for more information.

Does SAIT have class rings for purchase?

Jostens provides services for SAIT graduates online. All inquiries should be directed towards our Jostens graduation ring representative:

Can I participate in a future ceremony?

If we are able to convene in person by spring 2021, SAIT will be inviting the entire class of 2020 to attend and have the opportunity to walk the stage.

Will we be able to borrow grad gowns when social distancing restrictions are loosened so we can take photos with our classmates and friends?

Unfortunately, we do not keep graduation gowns on campus — traditionally, we rent gowns for each convocation ceremony from a supplier. While we won’t be able to provide you with a gown for photos, you can rent them from Gaspard.

Can I come to campus to take photos?

We know one of the special moments for grads is taking the iconic photo of Heritage Hall and showing off that beautiful downtown view — and you still can! Grads are welcome to come to campus this June for photos in front of Heritage Hall.

We also hope to have staged photo areas available during the grad package pick up times on campus.

To protect yourself and others from the spread of COVID-19 you must:

  • be respectful of fellow grads
  • observe on-campus signage
  • adhere to Alberta Health Services requirement to maintain physical distancing of two metres
  • be aware that no more than 50 people are allowed in one outdoor location as per Alberta Health Services' public health orders

Be advised, buildings remain closed, there is absolutely no access to any buildings on campus. Washroom facilities are not available.
