Convocation FAQ

When is the virtual convocation ceremony?

The Spring 2021 Virtual Convocation Ceremony will be held Thursday, June 17 at 4 pm MST.

Watch for your email invite and your unique log-in details to watch the ceremony. Then, tune in at 3:45 pm to watch the scrolling of names. The ceremony is about 90 mins.

Can my family take part in the virtual ceremony?

Yes, your friends and family can stream from anywhere! This is a special time and we want you to celebrate together, while physical distancing. Once you register for the ceremony, you will receive a special e-invitation you can forward to your friends and family.

Watch your email for your invitation to register for the ceremony.

Is the virtual ceremony mandatory?

The virtual ceremony is not mandatory, but we hope you’ll join in the celebration! If you decide not to join and have been approved to graduate, your credential will still be conferred and you will receive it via blockchain around the time of the ceremony.

The virtual ceremony will be available for viewing on June 18.

A printed parchment will also be available — see the grad package pick up and distribution tab.

Will you be announcing names for the virtual ceremony?

We will scroll the names of the graduates before and after the ceremony.

SAIT mailed grad packages in the past. Will you be doing that again?

Watch your inbox for your link to register for the virtual ceremony and choose a date/time to pick up your parchment package.

If you do not register to pick up your parchment, it will be mailed to you and is not guaranteed to arrive prior to the virtual ceremony.

Will there be a virtual or printed program?

A virtual program flipbook will be made available as part of the virtual ceremony.

If you register to pick up your parchment on campus, you will receive a program with it.

Mailed parchments will not come with a printed book.

Other schools are collecting messages and photos of their graduates, is SAIT doing this for the virtual ceremony?

We can’t wait to celebrate with you and welcome you to the alumni family. Stay tuned for contest details!

I’ve already applied to graduate. If I’m unable to participate in the virtual ceremony, will I still graduate?

Yes, once your grades have been reviewed and approved, you’ll be eligible for graduation.

You will receive your digital credential via blockchain and will be able to register for a date and time to pick up your parchment prior to the ceremony OR your parchment will be mailed to you after the virtual ceremony.

What is a digital credential?

SAIT uses MyCreds™️ — Canada’s digital document wallet — to issue credentials and other official documents in a secure digital format. MyCreds™️ is the official online document sharing system of the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC).

Documents issued through MyCreds™️ are certified, official and can be securely shared with other educational institutions, employers and other third parties. MyCreds™️ allows you to access your documents and share them as often as you need.

To find out more, check the MyCreds FAQ page.

Can I still purchase SAIT merchandise?

If your register to pick up your parchment, there will be a Bookstore pop-up on campus for the purchase of some SAIT branded merchandise and parchment frames.

Does SAIT have class rings for purchase?

Jostens provides services for SAIT graduates online. All inquiries should be directed towards our Jostens graduation ring representative:

Will we be able to borrow grad gowns when social distancing restrictions are loosened so we can take photos with our classmates and friends?

Unfortunately, we do not keep graduation gowns on campus — traditionally, we rent gowns for each convocation ceremony from a supplier.

While we won’t be able to provide you with a gown for photos, you can rent one from Gaspard.

Can I come to campus to take photos?

We know one of the special moments for grads is taking the iconic photo of Heritage Hall and showing off that beautiful downtown view — and you still can! Grads are welcome to come to campus this June for photos in front of Heritage Hall.

We also hope to have staged photo areas available during the grad package pick-up times on campus.

To protect yourself and others from the spread of COVID-19 you must:

  • be respectful of fellow grads
  • observe on-campus signage
  • adhere to Alberta Health Services requirement to maintain physical distancing of two metres
  • be aware of and follow Alberta Health Services' public health orders for how many people are allowed in one outdoor area at a time

Be advised, buildings remain closed, there is absolutely no access to any buildings on campus. Washroom facilities are not available.
