Shelann McQuay, SAIT Counsellor

I have a Master of Education degree (Counselling Psychology) from the University of Calgary and have been a Registered Psychologist for 21 years. I have worked in post-secondary as an educational counsellor for 11 years.

I am dedicated to working collaboratively with students in a way that values their experience, strengths and perspectives. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where students can make connections between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, explore meaningful changes and find practical solutions for navigating the challenges of life and being a student. I use an integrative approach, drawing from various evidence-based practices to support student’s development and growth in their personal and academic roles.

Being physically active is an important part of my physical and mental health. In summer, you will find me mountain biking, golfing or water skiing, and, in winter, I like to go downhill or cross-country skiing. I seek to notice nature in daily moments and spend time in nature to find calm, be replenished or feel inspired.

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
