Cannabis One Year Later

Last year, on October 17, 2018. Canada became the second nation (after Uruguay) to legalise cannabis. The Cannabis Act, establishes provisions for the production, distribution, sale, and possession of cannabis across Canada. On June 14, 2019, Health Canada finalized its regulations for the production and sale of edible cannabis, cannabis extracts, and cannabis topicals. The article Cannabis 101: Exploring Canada’s legal-marijuana landscape has helpful information on the legal recreational use of cannabis.

Here at SAIT, the Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products HS.1.4.1 policy states recreational cannabis cannot be consumed in any form on all SAIT campuses, including designated smoking areas; which are for tobacco use only. The use and sale of cannabis (which includes smoking, vaping and edibles) is prohibited at all SAIT campuses, as is attending either class or work while under the influence.
