Energizing student success with TC Energy
In June 2023, TC Energy and SAIT came together once again to support student success and innovative excellence at SAIT. TC Energy has provided $300,000 over the next three years in support of a number of campus activities such as Indigenous student success, youth readiness, workforce equity, capstone prizes and trades mentorship programs.
“We are honoured to continue to partner with TC Energy on these latest shared initiatives,” says Anthony Salekin, Associate Director, Development. “Sponsorship of programs like the International Women’s Day Conference, Innovation Capstone Prize and Natoysopoyiis, SAIT’s Indigenous student resource center, goes a long way to help the diversity of students who bring our campus to life.”
Two decades of support for Indigenous students
TC Energy was a founding partner for Natoysopoyiis in 2001 (then called Chinook Lodge), and this recent gift will ensure Indigenous students continue to have a place to gather, connect with their peers, and access advising. Support from TC Energy will provide funding for activities at the centre such as tutoring programs, student emergency funding and student success seminars and luncheons.
“These programs supported by TC Energy are essential for Natoysopoyiis,” says Steve Kootenay-Jobin, Manager of the resource centre. “Thanks to this generosity, we can provide the help our Indigenous students need to thrive.”
Women in Trades and Technology
With help from TC Energy, SAIT can continue to host the International Women’s Day Conference and mentorship programs. These initiatives encourage, promote and retain gender diversity and inclusion in the trade and technology industries and provide individuals with the tools and opportunities they need to meet their goals.
For the next three years, the TC Energy Capstone Prize in Innovation Excellence will be awarded to four students each year that demonstrate innovative integration of technical skills and knowledge. Capstone projects provide students with the opportunity to explore a problem or issue of personal or professional interest and address the challenge through applied research.
Cross campus commitment
The sponsorship of activities thanks to TC Energy provides resources and support for students across SAIT’s campus. Their generosity will impact student success far into the future. Partnerships and connections with industry-leading organizations such as TC Energy enables SAIT to remain a leader in applied education throughout Canada and around the world. Input through these relationships ensures SAIT graduates are prepared to excel in the workforce of today and tomorrow.
