On-campus activities resume, vaccination requirements

As of Monday, Sept. 20, on-campus activities will resume and SAIT will be following the Government of Alberta’s Restrictions Exemption Program.

Update: Tuesday, Sept. 21

SAIT, in alignment with the Government of Alberta’s Restriction Exemption Program and following the public health order (CMOH 42-2021) specific to post-secondary institutions, will be implementing controlled access to campus beginning Monday, Sept. 27.

To access campus, you will need to upload proof of World Health Organization (WHO)-approved vaccination into the SAITALERT app. If not vaccinated, physical proof (a digital or paper copy) of a negative lab-based PCR or rapid COVID-19 test is required on a weekly basis (subject to change) for those attending campus or participating in a SAIT-sanctioned off-campus event. There is a free rapid testing clinic on campus in the Orpheus Theatre.

If you can’t upload your vaccine verification through the SAITALERT app, ask for assistance by contacting vaccine.verification@sait.ca and carry proof of vaccination with you and be prepared to show it.

If you do not comply, you will not be permitted to enter campus facilities, including buildings, classrooms and labs.

Rapid tests on campus

A free rapid testing clinic will be open on campus from Sept. 20 to 24. The clinic will operate out of the Orpheus Theatre in the Campus Centre from 7:30 am to 3 pm.

You must book an appointment online through the website of our testing partner, NUMI health.

Please book your appointment(s) only for the period of Sept. 20 to 24. We will update our community on future testing clinic hours of operation during that week.

Anyone under the age of 12 does not need to provide proof of a negative test.

To reserve a time for your COVID-19 test, please follow these steps:

  • Visit NUMI health
  • Click on the button that says “Book an Antigen Test”
  • Select “SAIT Main Campus” as the location for your test
  • Enter the Promo Code SAIT2021 to reduce the cost to $0, and click “Confirm”
  • Enter your information and select a date and time for your test
  • Arrive on time for your test at SAIT’s Orpheus Theatre in the Campus Centre. Please bring your phone (for receiving your test result) and your SAIT student or employee ID. You will be required to show your ID at check-in.
  • The test involves a shallow nasal swab. It is quick and painless. You will be asked to wait in the theatre for 15-20 minutes and will receive your result by text message.

Medical exemptions and accommodations

To request accommodation, employees should contact their supervisor. Students can apply for accommodation through Accessibility Services and will be required to provide documentation as requested.

Mask requirement

Non-medical face masks continue to be worn in all public indoor areas, classrooms and labs on SAIT campuses.

Physical distancing must also be observed in all common areas. Learn more about health and safety on campus.

Extension to Drop/Switch course deadline for Fall 2021

We understand students who do not intend to get fully vaccinated or who do not want to provide proof of vaccination may consider withdrawing from their classes or, where possible, switching to online offerings.

In light of the public health restrictions announced by the Government of Alberta on Wednesday, Sept. 15, the switch/drop course deadline for all Fall 2021 credit courses that began in August or September, has been extended to 4 pm on Friday, Sept. 24. You are encouraged to discuss any potential course changes with your academic chair or program advisor.

  • Switching is moving from one offering of a class to a different offering of the same class.
  • There is no ability to add new classes.
  • The deadline to submit a UPass or Campus Recreation exemption request will be extended to 11:59 pm on Saturday, Sept. 25. Review eligibility criteria for UPass/Recreation fee exemptions.
  • Course or program withdrawals prompted by the Government of Alberta’s Restriction Exemption Program will qualify for full refund. If you have concerns or questions regarding completion of your courses or program please contact inquiry@sait.ca by 4 pm on Friday, Sept 24. You are encouraged to consider deferring your course registration rather than withdrawing.
  • Course or program withdrawals due to reasons unrelated to the Restriction Exemption Program must follow the Withdrawal/Refund policy.
