Student award inspires confidence
Thanks to her student award, Carmen Cundy will have the opportunity to share her stories, thoughts and ideas with the world. Cundy is graduating this spring from SAIT's Journalism program and recently received the David Pommer Excellence in Writing Award for her outstanding work.
Speaking at a celebration of student award recipients, Cundy says that receiving a scholarship inspired her to work hard.
"It not only gave me a leg up financially, it has given me confidence and the reassurance that I am more than just another face in the crowd. I am confident that I can truly make a name for myself as a writer."
During her time at SAIT, Cundy maintained a 4.0-grade point average and became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Cundy was one of 120 people who attended the event, including generous SAIT donors and student award recipients, in SAIT's venerable Heritage Hall.
Heather Magotiaux, Vice President, External Relations, served as emcee. She thanked donors for their generosity and pointed out that 4,000 students directly benefit from the $5 million in awards that is available in almost every SAIT program.
"Scholarships and bursaries help attract new students to SAIT and recognize academic success and community involvement," says Magotiaux. "And most importantly, they contribute to our students' financial security and, ultimately, student success."

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
