Sonja Chamberlin holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Alberta and a Master’s of Education in Post-Secondary Studies from Memorial University. She is certified with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science and is registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta.

Much of Sonja’s career has been in education — first as a lecturer and clinical instructor at the University of Alberta, then at SAIT where she has held progressive leadership positions over the past two decades. Keen to leverage technology in the classroom, she was an early adopter of digital solutions to support learning and facilitate blended delivery models.

Sonja has shared her expertise at various conferences on the topics of neuroplasticity, simulation in medical laboratory science, enhancing students’ practicum experience, building effective teams and measuring course quality using micro-analysis tools.

As an active volunteer for the medical laboratory profession, she has served on various boards and committees at the provincial and national level. She is also involved in program accreditation reviews and is currently a surveyor with Health Standards Organization – Accreditation Canada, Equal.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
