Andrew Stevenson

As a SAIT student, Andrew Stevenson freelanced for design clients while taking classes and playing for the Trojans volleyball team. Today, as the academic chair for the Digital Design and Production portfolio in the School for Advanced Digital Technology, he takes experiences gained over the course of his career, travel and those learned through sport — and leverages it to prepare students to take part in the digital revolution.

After graduating with a diploma in production art from what is now the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology, Stevenson moved to Calgary to earn one in Digital Graphics Communication at SAIT. Splitting his time between classes and the volleyball court — where he learned about leadership, problem solving and strategy — prepared Stevenson to jump into a career right from graduation, working for an advertising agency and then a large format print company.

Stevenson began teaching at SAIT in 2011 as a contract instructor, taking on more courses until he was working full time.

He has since traded the classroom for the position as academic chair where he connects with industry to ensure programming — and graduates — are ready to meet shifting needs in the world of design and media.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
